Kate Henz, Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Strategy
Kate Henz is Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Strategy for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Henz provides strategic direction and leadership in the management of resources within the College and serves as an adviser to the dean on all matters relating to finance, budget planning, resource reallocation, the design and implementation of technology plans, the processing of personnel materials and the efficient use of space throughout the College.
Henz has nearly 15 years of higher education financial, management and policy experience. She has extensive experience in a research university setting, with demonstrable success in project management and team building; direct experience in a shared service operation; experience in process improvement, data sharing and data management; program evaluation; and deep experience in public budgeting, including capital budgeting and facility planning.
Henz previously served as associate vice president for policy, planning and analysis for UNC System Office. That position gave her a comprehensive overview of academic and financial policy at the state level.
Before joining UNC System Office in 2012, Henz was at the University of New Mexico, where her last position was financial officer and associate director for finance and administration in the Provost’s Office. In all, she has served as a principal adviser on a multitude of issues to three senior vice presidents of academic affairs at the UNC System Office and three provosts at the University of New Mexico.
Prior to a career in higher education, Henz was a small enterprise development advisor for the United States Peace Corps serving in Ghana, West Africa, and prior to that, she worked at KPMG as an external auditor.
She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in educational research policy and analysis at NC State University and has a master’s in public administration from the University of New Mexico. She holds a B.S. in finance from Santa Clara University.
