Mary H. Cain Distinguished Professorship in Art History
In December 2007, the Morehead-Cain Foundation created the Mary H. Cain Distinguished Professorship in Art History, resulting in a $2 million endowment that will add four honors courses in art history. * The professorship is designed to attract or retain a distinguished teacher and scholar in art history with a demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
The professorship recognizes the contributions of Mary Cain of Houston, Texas. Cain, a generous education philanthropist, is an articulate advocate for the arts, a respected authority on primitive art, and a collector. She formerly served as a lecturer and administrator at The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and as a lecturer at Rice University. UNC’s Morehead Scholarship and Morehead Foundation were renamed in February 2007 after the foundation received a $100 million gift from the Gordon and Mary Cain Foundation of Houston.
*received state matching funds from the State of North Carolina Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust
