Lazard's brilliant and well-connected deputy chairman, Gary Parr, is the man at the center of helping to fix many of the financial institutions hammered by the subprime lending crisis. Parr attributes his and Lazard's central role in these deals to the ongoing relationships he and his colleagues have with big global financial players and the experience Lazard has in helping to raise large amounts of capital quickly. Away from work, Parr, a Carolina alum, established the Parr Center for Ethics in the philosophy department through a gift from his family foundation. The center sponsors research, teaching and discussion of ethical issues important to the university and community.
