Muscles can ache for a variety of reasons. But no matter what caused the pain, it's important to stretch out and then strengthen the affected muscles to prevent the problem from happening again (and again). There are three common causes of muscle pain, according to Troy Blackburn, an assistant professor in UNC's department of exercise and sport science.
