Human activities are affecting every square mile of the world's oceans, according to a study by a team of American, British and Canadian resarchers who mapped the severity of the effects from pole to pole. UNC researchers include Elizabeth Selig, a doctoral student in ecology, and John Bruno, a marine sciences professor.
The analysis of 17 global data sets details how humans are reshaping the seas through overfishing, air and water pollution, commercial shipping and other activities. The study was published in the journal Science. (The study was also featured in The Independent (United Kingdom), on MSNBC and in The New Zealand Herald, among other media outlets.)
