Sep 23, 2009 — See NPR: "The Story With Dick Gordon"
Twenty years ago, thousands of children in southern Sudan were chased from their homes in the war. Many of those who survived became known as Lost Boys. Those boys are now young men, and they are moving into the next phase of their lives. Emmanuel Chan (biology '09) found refuge in the U.S. seven years ago and is now a research technician at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Emmanuel says he initially he planned to return to the Sudan after finishing his education. However, as he tells Dick Gordon, after reuniting with his mother and marrying a girl he met in the refugee camp, those plans have changed.
