Andrea Caldwell, senior assistant dean for Academic Advising in UNC’s College of Arts & Sciences, received a Certificate of Merit/Outstanding Advising Award from NACADA, a national academic advising association.

Caldwell was honored in the Academic Advising Administrator category. She was nominated by advising administrators and through letters of support from faculty, colleagues and campus partners for her holistic support of student success at Carolina.

NACADA’s Global Awards Program for Academic Advising honors individuals and institutions making significant impacts on academic advising. The award will be presented during the NACADA annual conference in Cincinnati Oct. 6-9.

Caldwell received an undergraduate degree in management information systems from Winston-Salem State University and a master’s in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Prior to joining UNC Academic Advising, Caldwell served in various intersecting roles of student and academic affairs at Duke University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and Livingstone College.

“I believe each student possesses a set of unique strengths, talents and abilities. Each one needs to feel connected to the University, know how to find and use appropriate resources, and have the confidence to make their own life decisions,” Caldwell said. “My calling is to inspire Carolina students to explore beyond the familiar, to engage fully in their curricular and co-curricular pursuits, and to empower them to envision greater possibilities.”

NACADA has grown to over 14,000 members around the globe. It provides a network for the thousands of faculty, full-time advisers and administrators whose responsibilities include academic advising.
