New flood sensors installed along Canal Drive in Carolina Beach will help the town improve its infrastructure and adapt to rising sea levels.

The study will help researchers better understand chronic flooding in coastal communities and the impact it has on the people and businesses in these areas, said project lead Miyuki Hino, an assistant professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. (The Sunny Day Flood project also includes IMS engineers Tony Whipple and Ryan Neve.)
