Pégard named Beckman Young Investigator

Nicolas Pégard, assistant professor in the department of applied physical sciences in UNC’s College of Arts & Sciences, has been named a 2021 Beckman Young Investigator by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.


A Russian Flagship capstone year in Kazakhstan

Griffin McGuire traveled to Russia for the first time in 2019 for an intensive language program in St. Petersburg and is now a student in the UNC Russian Flagship Program. The federally funded language initiative is the first of its kind in North Carolina.

UNC Program for Public Discourse serves as resource in student-led civil discourse project

This spring, the Program for Public Discourse (PPD) in the College of Arts & Sciences served as a resource for a student-led project designed to foster dialogue between high schoolers in neighboring Orange and Randolph counties.

History professor Genna Rae McNeil will retire soon, leaving a legacy of scholarship, influential teaching, respectful discourse, advocacy for equality and, above all, students who go on to do great things.


Cosmic Rays Film Festival receives $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

College faculty Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown are co-founders of the festival, which will curate extended reality, or XR, media art, including virtual reality, augmented reality and other forms of immersive media for the 2022 event.
