Selected from 588 nominations, the winners — many from the College of Arts and Sciences — are skilled instructors and “true champions of the student.”

Lt. Col. Brie Vihlen’s Air Force service has taken her to Afghanistan, the United Kingdom, bases throughout the United States and ultimately to commanding Carolina’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 590.

Robinson, associate professor of American studies, is a two-time alumna of the College’s Institute for the Arts and Humanities’ programs.

The school, which is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, welcomes 11 new faculty members and two new adjunct associate professors.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023-2024 Creativity Hubs seed funding awards. Many of the projects involve faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Oswaldo Estrada, professor of Romance studies, and Anthony Hackney, professor of exercise and sport science, were two of three Carolina faculty members to receive awards from the U.S. Department of State.

Professors Laura Mersini-Houghton in the physics and astronomy department and Karin Pfennig in the biology department will serve two-year terms as WOWS Scholars and receive annual grants to pursue initiatives of their choosing.
