If the ordinance passes, it remains to be seen whether Uber and Lyft will ultimately pull out of the city, Alexandrea Ravenelle, assistant professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told Business Insider.
“It’s a common threat for these platforms to say that they will leave a market,” she said. “But it turns out that even when they start to finally pay workers a better wage, they’re still fine.”
