College winners among those recognized for outstanding service to campus, community

Intergenerational discussions about ethics, prevention of human trafficking and UNC Campus EMS services were just some of the efforts recognized at UNC-Chapel Hill’s 24th annual University Public Service Awards on April 11. College of Arts and Sciences winners were among the recipients.

Self-powered photon counting detector may facilitate safer medical imaging

The new detector will have direct applications to consumer electronics, sensors, optical communication and radiation detection.

‘The Story of Us’ creates community through drama

On April 15 and 16, 19 actors — including an Academy-Award winner and a Broadway performer — will tell the stories of 27 LGBTQ+ Tar Heels in the Process Series production of “The Story of Us.”

Gathering oral histories from the LGBTQ community

Oral historian Hooper Schultz is studying the history of gay liberation student activism on college campuses in the United Sates during the 1970s. The first gay conference in the Southeast was held in 1976 on UNC’s campus.

Arts Everywhere Day returns April 14

The seventh annual Arts Everywhere Day will feature performances, installations and activities across campus, beginning at 11 a.m. There will be an all-day informational art fair in the Gift Plaza at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union.

Thirty-three students receive awards from NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Thirty-three students — both graduate and undergraduate — have received prestigious awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) for their research in STEM-related fields, including chemistry, geography, neuroscience and more.
