By day, junior Jonah Lewis studies history and information science at Carolina. But at night, you’ll find him performing comedy at open mic nights around Chapel Hill.
Obstacles are an everyday reality for Jonah Lewis, but they never get in the way of what he hopes to accomplish. That’s especially true for his newest passion: comedy.
Lewis, a junior history and information science major from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, has cerebral palsy and requires a wheelchair. While he’s been developing his comedy to keep the audience entertained at open mic events around town, he’s also hoping to accomplish something more enduring with his craft.
“I hope by the end of my shows that people can gain a little bit of perspective on how it is to live my life,” Lewis said. “That’s what stand-up is. It’s presenting the world as you see it in a funny manner to make it enjoyable for other people.”
